U.S. Dept. of Education: I Am What I Learn Contest
The Department of Education is asking students to respond to President Obama's challenge to take responsibility for their own learning by creating videos, up to two minutes in length, describing steps they will make to improve their education and the role of education in fulfilling their dreams. Submissions can be video blogs, public service announcements, music videos, or documentaries, and will be voted on by the public. Maximum Award: $1,000. Eligibility: students age 13 and older. Deadline: Students must upload their videos to YouTube by October 8, 2009.

Parent Resource Meeting
We've been asked to get the word out about a Parent Resource Meeting that is occuring Thursday, September 24th. Here is the info for all who would like to and are able to attend:
Our guidance department is hosting a Parent Resource Meeting this Thursday at 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the Heritage Library. The focus is "Understanding Your Middle School Child" in regard to academics, peer relations, and independence vs. nurture. Heritage looks forward to seeing parents there.
Please pass this message along to any parents you know who may not be subscribing to or visiting or blog.

Heritage PTSA Members Help the Downtown Painesville Organization and Planning Begins for Our First Fall Dance
Heritage Middle School PTA Student Members Aryn and Nicole Preston and Drew Miller (along with students from Chestnut and Elm Elementary Schools) helped with Downtown Painesville Organization film a video to promote Painesville. The video is still in production but we'll let you know when it's available. Also, if you are a Heritage PTSA member and would like to serve on the planning committee for our First Heritage PTSA Fall Dance, please contact President Kim Freeman at heritage.ptsa@yahoo.com.

First Meeting of the Heritage Middle School PTSA
Thursday, September 10th will be the first meeting of the new Heritage Middle School PTSA, to be held at Heritage Middle School's library beginning at 6:30 PM. Plans for the coming year will be discussed as well as available officer and committee chairperson positions. It's a great way to have your input on the agenda for the year. Please plan on attending!
